On any given day there are hundreds of legitimate work-at-home jobs posted online. Even today, in a tanking economy employers are hiring people to work from home. But many people still struggle to find these jobs or to get hired when they do find them. Perhaps you’re one those people. While there is no magic pill, there are some “secrets” you should know to increase the odds of success in finding and getting a work-at-home job.
Secret #1:
Home-based employees don’t stuff envelopes, assemble crafts, process payments or rebates, post ads, or fill out surveys. These programs are all scams or simply don’t make enough money to buy a pizza much less pay the mortgage.
Successful home-based employees have jobs that are similar to the jobs found in the traditional work world such as personal assistant (or virtual assistant), customer service rep, bookkeeper, copywriter, tutor, teacher, paralegal, transcriber, and writer just to name a few. So, just as in searching for a traditional job, when doing a work-at-home job search, focus on jobs that need the skills and experience you have.
Secret #2:
Home-based employees don’t use directories or search engines to find a telecommuting jobs. Many of these resources provide scam companies such as assembly or mailing work. Others provide a list of companies that have telecommuting programs, but for the purpose of finding work, they are useless as the companies may not be hiring.
Instead, successful home-based employees search for jobs where employers post their job openings such as on career websites like Monster.com, on company websites, or through reputable telecommuting databases that list current job openings. It’s important to remember the scammers do post their jobs on the free-to-use job boards, so you’ll need to research jobs carefully. The best way to stay safe is to remember that employers never charge to hire you and won’t ask to use your bank account to do business.
Secret #3:
Home-based employees don’t sign up for a job. Neither do they buy one. Work at home jobs must be earned in the same way traditional jobs are; you need to apply, interview and get hired. Any company that says you will have a “job” simply by signing up and sending money is NOT offering you a job.
Successful home-based employees know they are competing with many other candidates and therefore have a stellar resume or application that is tailored to each specific job to which they apply. They are careful to follow the job announcement’s directions to a “T” not only to provide the information the employer is looking for, but to also show that they know how to follow directions.
The home-based jobs are out there. A quick search of Monster.com using the keyword “telecommute” yields over 400 job announcements. And while some of these jobs are scams or business opportunities, many are great work-at-home jobs that you can apply to today. The key to success is to remember to look for the right types of work in the right places, and then make the best impression you can on the potential employer.

Are you just starting your online business? As a beginner, it is almost always best to start out use free marketing methods. That is because there is a learning process to making money on the Internet. It takes most people a number of months before they start making money online.
They key to making money online is traffic. You have to develop some method of generating traffic. I like writing articles. To be successful using articles you have to write at least one a day. It is better to write two or three a day, but most people cannot do this because they are not working full-time. If, like most people, you can only commit a few hours per week, spend a Saturday afternoon and write 7 articles. Then submit one each day for the following week.
Make sure that each of your articles are all targeted to the products and services that you offer on your website or blog. Include a resource box in each article that provides three links to your website, blog, or products that you endorse. By submitting articles every day, readers will see your name more and more and come to see you as an expert in your field. That is why it is important that all of your articles be in the same niche.
Ideally, diversify your traffic generating techniques. Use free ezine ads as a promotional technique. Few people realize that many ezines will allow you to place one or more free ads if you subscribe to their service. This can be a very effective technique to generate traffic. Do a search and locate twenty to fifty ezines. Go to each site and determine if they allow new subscribers to place free ads. If they do not, move on to the next ezine.
I do not recommend that you jump right into pay-per click programs if you are just starting out. Even if you commit a minimal amount, such as $5.00 per day, it can cost you $400 – $500 before you begin to make any money at all. There is a learning process involved to be successful using PPC methods. Even many seasoned professionals lose at first. You are best served by starting out with free techniques and then try PPC after you have begun to make some money.

The proper use of the proper tools can take any average person and turn them into a great success. Nowhere is this more true than in the world of niche marketing, yet there are still so many who are either using the wrong tools or are using the right tools incorrectly.
The main purpose of a niche marketing tool is this: it will give you a quick analysis of your chosen market/keywords/content/etc., and will display the results of that analysis in an easy to understand way that allows you to make the wisest possible business decision. What this does is it takes all of the time that you were previously spending on keyword and market research and does it in a few minutes.
This allows you to devot time to things that have real value to your project. Doing market research may pay off, but it may not. Writing keyword-rich sales letters and developing finely targeted PPC advertisements is much easier when you have quality research at your fingertips.
The most crucial element of this whole process is the quality of the analysis. When determining whether or not a niche marketing tool is right for you, these are the features you should look for, as they will provide the most direct and immediate benefit to your business.
* Keyword Competition: Few niche marketers have the money to compete with the big guys who are selling in the same market. A good tool will tell you immediately what sort of competition you’re facing on certain keywords, allowing you to decide whether or not it’s worth your time.
* Keyword Traffic: If there isn’t very much competiton for a particular keyword, it could mean that it is because it doesn’t get much traffic. There’s no point getting the highest ranking for a keyword that nobody cares about and aren’t searching for.
* Complementary Sites For Building Links: This one pretty much explains itself. The better the quality of your links, the more the search engines will reward you with rankings.
* Number Of Backlinks: This is crucial. Once you know the good places to start building backlinks, you need to know how many you will actually need in order to be competitive. This analysis is completed by analyzing the top search results for your keywords and then checking them for backlinks, thereby giving you a quick look at the amount of work required to contend at the top of the ranks.
